How much power of expression is contained in a letter, a word, or a sentence, when these entities, which are very communicative in character, are put on stage as images and objects? How does typographical information respond to its environment, to graphic complements, deconstruction or visual reversal?

Under the curatorship of Slanted, “bright!” presents a unique collection of extraordinary typo-art. Culturally-rooted and progressive aesthetic dimensions of typographic discourse reflect the complexity of the various disciplines between illustration and art.

David A Smith is a name that has become synonymous in Sign-Writing and Glass gilding circles, with high quality, hand crafted reverse glass signs and decorative silvered and gilded mirrors.

In this short documentary, we reveal behind the scenes work, techniques and visions that Dave uses when carrying out his passion as a glass embosser - One of the few remaining traditional UK glass artists.

A film by Danny Cooke.

Keep an eye on...

It is funny how things are matching together sometimes. This week all what I read and talked about was for most of it about the imagination.
It is very frustrating to become repetitive in its work and it is hard to get away from it.
As Robin Friend said “My imagination is all that I had to keep me company…” explaining his process of work when he shot the Slaughterhouse series.
Through our imagination we are able to find new ways, new ideas and new concepts to avoid weariness. Experimenting things is not a waste of time, it has not necessarily an immediate effect but could be useful later.
Among other, this set Fun At Work of an optometrist photographer is a perfect example of how to be imaginative at work. Keep an eye on your imagination!

I decided to talk a bit about fashion on Playtime this month and I am beginning with the Elvestedt sisters, Sofie, Pernilla and Jennifer. The sisters are designing beautiful collections for their Minimarket project. Created in 2006, the line had a big impact in the fashion world and continue to grow.

The Autumn/Winter 2010 collection is a brilliant mix of different cultures with a theatrical and graphical touch. The make-up is perfect and I love the hats, obviously! I look forward to see the next collection.

Travelling At The Speed of Sound is one of my favorite album so I was looking forward Supersonic Revolutions. “The primitive forces of rock music mixed with intricate jazz progressions, pulsating beats of electro, the grandiosity of classical music performed with the attitude of punk.” I enjoy it more and more every day.

Im Lauf der Zeit or Kings of the Roads is one of this movies that you can not and do not want to forget. It makes you living!

I recently borrowed Barbican: Penthouse Over the City by David Heathcote at the YCN Library. The Barbican is such an intriguing and exciting place. I keep in mind the wonderful washbasin made by Twyford especially for the Barbican flats!.

Good for eyes and ears.

Phonovideo is a homemade visual tool that allows to display and mix short animations in an analog way without computers etc. It’s a mixture of the phenakistoscope technique from 1832 and turntablism. Clemens Kogler for the motionographer interview.

Phonovideo is a VJ tool or visual instrument used to display animations in an analog way without the help of a computer. “Stuck in a Groove” is the first film made with this technique, it serves also as a demo for the technique .
In the future phonovideo should be used for live performances in cooperations with musicians, performancers and other artists.
The music for “Stuck in a Groove” was created by Richard Eigner/ Ritornell.
